Wons Phreely

Tasty sample-tinged pholk & sideways pop.

In the last few months Wons Phreely has supported the likes of M. Ward, Ben Kweller & Bob Evans. He has been a Triple J Home & Hosed feature artist, he's played The Great Escape & Playground Weekender Festivals and is now set to share a stage with acts like The Grates, Red Riders & Expatriate at Brisbane's Pauhaus Festival.  And all this before his first official EP release!

Boundary Sounds proudly brings you Wons Phreely's first official release The Rules Of Nature EP.

Growing up next door to the prime suspect in a real-life murder will do strange things to a kid... so it should come as no surprise that the music singer/songwriter Wons Phreely creates is a little, well let's say different...

"When I was growing up in Perth this guy who lived near my house in Cottesloe was the main suspect in the Claremont serial killings in Western Australia," Wons says. "The News people/Police would all camp outside his house and all follow him everywhere he went, but could never prove it was him, so I kinda got to thinking what it might be like to have his life."

Getting himself tangled up in imagination and rhyme, Wons eventually resolves the whole mess through his songwriting.

The Rules of Nature EP displays everything that is good about Wons and his songwriting. It is a fun, witty, and well-produced record full of lyrically intelligent storytelling, ironic double entendres, and wry observations. Throughout the 6 track EP there's: fashion-bashing indie-pop-stompers like ‘Another Thing';  murder mystery folk-ska pop of Temper Temper; there's the Billy Bragg-esque anti-war-anti-pholk of ‘Soldiers'; and title track ‘Rules of Nature' is a fun and intelligent new-pholk ballad with a delightful twist on the (long worn) theme of romance.

And with Wons being announced to play at this years Splendour in the Grass as part of theMellow Gold set, things are looking good!

"You know those CDs that make you so happy you can't help but smile? Wons Phreely not only makes you smile, but also makes you jump up and dance like a crazy kid." - FBi Radio

"This EP marks its maker as an exciting artist to watch" -Time Off

"And, this six-track EP just might be one of the year's best albums that's not (an album)" - Inpress

"Falling somewhere between Ben Kweller's effortless cuteness and Conor Oberst's socially provoking themes.... it's surprising to discover that this is Perth artist Phreely's first release. Hopefully it won't be a work of fiction to predict he meets a Gotye-level of success in the coming months" - Rave Magazine
